As I stood there with Faith, looking at Matt with the "The fish is dead eyes", Faithy quietly said, "Daddy, Pokey needs a breathing machine like you and mommy...she's upside down and needs to breathe."
Faithy stood beside me as I blew air into the fish bowl with my CPAP machine through a straw I had attached to my breathing tube. Her fish just laid on the bottom of the bowl, upside down, laboring for every breath. Faithy and I kept encouraging her, "Come on Pokey, you can do it..." It only took 10 minutes and she was upright and another 15 and she began moving.
As I watched her swimming around in the water I began to think how quickly in life we give up when things seem "dead", impossible, out of reach, beyond our vision instead of trusting that God sees life beyond the laboring breath. Look at us. Before Christ we were "walking around dead". He could have took one look at us and said, "That's it, flush them down the drain." Instead, He continued and continues to pursue us throughout time because He loves us, created us and we truly belong to Him. Yet, through our labored breathing we have to be willing to take the "clean air" from the "CPAP machine" He provided when Christ died for us. That gift of LIFE. LIFE eternal! (you all know that I know it was not a CPAP machine that gives us life...it's just a metaphor.)
Okay, so you are a follower of Christ and you find yourself still "laboring to breathe". Let me encourage you to flip over and look up...He is still there. When the day seems impossible, when the task seems out of reach, when you have lost your vision of what you are doing or where you are going....remember that He sees beyond the impossible, that He is able to do immeasurably more than you can ever imagine(Eph. 3:14-21)...that you are HIS daughter and your vision is to simply seek HIS face first. (Matthew 6:33)
Whenever your mind seems cloudy, murky, laboring...just remember a little fish who suffered with "Sleep Apnea", and may you find your gaze on Christ.
