A Bag of M&M's and Sprite...

I have said it often and will continue to voice it. Our Children are often times our best teachers.
I am a seminary graduate. I actually hold two Masters. I have sat and learned under some incredible men and women of God...and yet it is from the actions and words of my children that I have learned the most about being a follower of Christ. What it means to have a relationship with Him. What it means to converse with Him...what it means to pray.

My children talk to God as if He were sitting beside them, sharing a Sprite and M&M's and they proceed to tell Him all about...and I do mean all about their day. They always thank Him for the food, even if they are riding in the van or getting ready to sleep. It is then I am taught about communication and relationship through my 5 and 3 year old. From the big truck they saw on the road, the riding their bikes in the parking lot at the church or the pine cones they saw with ,mommies funny eye binoculars...they tell him everything with such joy. Isn't that how it should be? Don't we love to share our day with people...hoping someone wants to sit and listen? Why would God be any different. He longs to hear about our day, our joys, our pains, things that excite us, amaze us....

Okay, yes, He knows it already, but that does not take away the joy of relating.

As we grow up we sort of forget the joys of life, the little things that help us get through the day, the little things we see that give us a chuckle or bring us to tears...that remind us of what an awesome God we have and how He orchastrates life. What we focus on are all the worries and thus, that is all we bring to Him. Okay, hear me...we are supposed to bring those also. He tells us to bring our burdens to Him. To seek, ask and knock.

Yet, what would it mean for us to be "childlike" with our Father and thank Him for things and share with Him about our day...as if He were sitting beside you with a cup of M & M's and sipping Sprite with you?

You might find it freeing. You might find it...uplifting. You might find it...life changing.

(My precious daughter talked with Jesus the other day, "Jesus, I road my bike today...giggle giggle...it was fun.)

Go ahead...there's a bag of M&M's and Sprite waiting.
